It is with a feeling of great sadness that we chronicle the death of Herman Becker, of Ackley, Iowa---son of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Becker, who live near here. It was but a little more than a week before his death that he and his brothers, John, Henry and Joe, had been called to the bedside of their aged father, and while here Herman was taken dangerously ill with kidney trouble. As soon as he was able to be about he was taken to his home in Ackley, where he immediately grew worse and died early on the morning of Oct. 10th. Deceased leaves a wife and three small children besides his aged parents, four sisters and three brothers and numerous friends to mourn his death. The sympathy of all are with the bereaved family.

Death of Herman Becker

Like a thunderbolt from a clear sky came the announcement of the death of Herman Becker on Saturday morning. No like visitation of Providence in recent years has possessed for our citizens in any greater degree the element of shock and sincere regret, nor elicted more general heart-felt sympathy for the bereaved ones. Herman was a young man of sterling worth as a citizen, a business man and as a neighbor, admirable traits of character were evidenced i his every act; his dealings with his fellow-man were ever honorable and just. Charity toward all, mailee to none were distinguishing characteristics of his nature. He came to us in 1887 in the morning of his manhood and engaged in the clothing business, and up to the time of his death had been one of our most active and progressive business men. Herman was born in Clayton, Iowa, December 21, 1862, and only lacked a few months of being 34 years of age. He was married to Miss B. Cooney, of this city in 1891, who with her three little daughters, Ruth, Lois and Lucille, survive him.

The funeral occurred Monday morning, services being held in the Catholic church, requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. M. Mengher, assisted by Revs. Father Eagan, of Belmond, and Lynch, of Parkersburg. The remains followed by a large number of citizens and sorrowing relatives, was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.

The sincere friendship built up will remain as monuments to the nobility of character which he possessed. His widow and the infant orphans bereaved by his untimely taking off, have the earnest, heartfelt sympathy of all, In their bereavement.---Ackley World.
